Project Id.:

Project statement:

To expand a pioneering community based agro forestry scheme that is working with 760 farmers to reforest part of the Bolivian Amazon with native hardwood species, and in doing so demonstrate a more sustainable and profitable farming model for poor peasant farmers.  Timber profits are shared equally between farmers who own the land and look after the trees, and investors who supply capital for the seeds, infrastructure and technical assistance with farming.

Required investment:
8 240 000 USD
Project type:
Plantation forestry
Carbon and ecosystem services
Investment period:
10 Years
Capital item:

We would like to double the size of the project to achieve economies of scale and to increase the impact of the project.  The extra investment will provide the necessary capital both to expand the project and to fully finance the current operations until breakeven when timber revenues will more than cover operational costs.  Specifically money is needed for:

  • to purchase seedlings
  • to meet the costs of technical advisors in the field
  • to fund travel costs of project staff
  • to pay farmers a small sum to maintain their trees
